Once the scene of a huge explosion detonated by Commonwealth soldiers, caused this massive crater. It is rumoured that the explosion was so vast that a nearby German pillbox was stormed afterwards where soldiers were found dead in the middle of a card game. Whether this is true or not is unclear. Now the crater has filled with water with plant life flourishing. It is amazing how a place - once of such destruction - submitted to the natural World to become such a beautiful place called the Pool of Peace.
